Liverpool: Indian boxers are set to encounter a formidable challenge against a highly competitive field as they aim to equal or surpass their medal tally from the last edition when the World Boxing Championships commence here on Thursday. This year’s Championships will for the first time be organized by the new governing body, World Boxing, and will include both men’s and women’s events simultaneously. India had a successful outing in 2023, with the women’s team securing four gold medals in New Delhi and the men’s team earning three bronze medals in Tashkent. However, their performance waned afterwards, marked by lackluster results at the Asian Games later that year and a disappointing showing at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
