Bangladesh golfer Jamal Hossain excelled in the third round, delivering an outstanding six-under par 64 to take a four-shot lead in the Rs 1 crore Telangana Golconda Masters on Thursday. With scores of 61-62-64, Jamal expanded his lead from three shots at the halfway mark to a total of 23-under 187. The 40-year-old from Dhaka has positioned himself as the frontrunner for the title at the Hyderabad Golf Association (HGA). “I hit many greens in regulation today, as my tee and approach shots were accurate. I succeeded in minimizing errors throughout the third day, with the bogey on the ninth being the only exception. I’m pleased with my performance considering the windy conditions today,” Jamal remarked.
Chandigarh’s Akshay Sharma, who scored 62-64-65, recorded a 65 to maintain his second place for the third consecutive day, finishing with a total of 19-under 291 on the week’s windiest day, which also saw light rain in the final 30 minutes of play. Bengaluru’s Khalin Joshi, with scores of 65-66-66, posted a 66 to finish the round in third place at 13-under 197, gaining one position. Delhi’s Shaurya Bhattacharya and Gurugram’s Manu Gandas both shot rounds of 64 to tie for fourth place at 12-under 198. Delhi’s Arjun Prasad, currently second in the PGTI’s merit list, carded his second consecutive 65, moving up two spots to sixth place at 11-under 199.
