A wanted gangster with a reward of Rs 50,000 was shot dead by a combined team of Delhi Police’s Special Staff and Gurugram Crime Branch during an encounter near Astha Kunj Park in southeast Delhi, an official reported on Tuesday. Bhim Mahabahadur Jora, 39, originally from Nepal, was sought for the murder of 63-year-old general physician Yogesh Chander Paul during a robbery at his home in Jangpura in May 2024. According to DCP (Southeast) Hemant Tiwari, Jora was the leader of a Nepali gang that employed its members as domestic help in wealthy households across major Indian cities.

After gaining the trust of the families, the gang members would allegedly use sleep-inducing drugs before stealing cash and valuables, sometimes resorting to violence or murder. The officer stated that the encounter occurred on the night of Monday to Tuesday after the Delhi and Haryana police received information about Jora’s presence in the capital. The fugitive, who had been evading capture since the Jangpura murder, often crossed into Nepal to avoid arrest. A trap was set near Astha Kunj Park, where the suspect was seen around midnight. When police instructed him to surrender, he fired at them, leading to return fire in self-defense.
