New Delhi/Lucknow, October 7: Distinguished criminal law authority Dr. Upma Gautam has praised the Yogi government for the notable advancements showcased in the latest NCRB report, which indicates a historic enhancement in crime control in Uttar Pradesh. With two decades of experience in criminal law, Dr. Gautam emphasized that the NCRB statistics genuinely reflect the law and order climate in any society. The data illustrates an increase in crime reporting, which she views as a positive development, signaling that citizens now have confidence in the police and judicial system rather than fearing them. As reported by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), Uttar Pradesh has experienced considerable reductions in various major crime categories.
Legal professionals have applauded these improvements, especially in light of the state’s past challenges with law and order. Dr. Upma Gautam, a criminal law professor at Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) with over 20 years of teaching experience, is well-known for her informative seminars on new criminal legislation. Throughout her career, she has mentored and motivated numerous law enforcement, judicial, and legal professionals. She explained that the introduction of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) has made the reporting and investigation processes more straightforward and transparent.
Unlike previous eras when complaints were frequently disregarded, current protocols ensure that every case is treated with seriousness by state agencies, thereby enhancing public trust in the justice system. Commenting on Uttar Pradesh under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s leadership, Dr. Gautam remarked on the significant improvement in crime rates per lakh population relative to the national average. She underscored that this is not just a matter of statistical improvement but a demonstration of tangible change within the community. Drawing from her extensive background in legal education and research, Dr.
Gautam asserted that the Yogi government’s effective strategies, including smart policing, technological surveillance, Mission Shakti for women’s safety, and stringent measures against criminals, have collectively positioned Uttar Pradesh as a secure state. She noted that this achievement stems from active public involvement, responsive policing, and transparent judicial practices, all contributing to a renewed and positive perception of Uttar Pradesh.
