The M5 chip offers more than 4 times the peak GPU compute performance for AI tasks, featuring next-generation GPU technology with Neural Accelerators in each core, an enhanced CPU, a quicker Neural Engine, and up to 3 times the unified memory bandwidth compared to the M4. Built on advanced third-generation 3-nanometer technology, the M5 chip incorporates a 10-core GPU with Neural Accelerators, significantly accelerating GPU-based AI workloads and improving graphics performance by up to 45% over the M4 through advancements in ray tracing and shading. The CPU supports up to 10 cores, comprised of six efficiency cores and four performance cores, providing up to 15% faster multithreaded performance than its predecessor.
Additionally, Apple has upgraded the 16-core Neural Engine, the media engine, and increased unified memory bandwidth by nearly 30%, reaching 153GB/s. This combination of power and efficiency allows Apple’s latest devices powered by the M5 — including the 14-inch MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, and Apple Vision Pro — to achieve exceptional performance without compromising battery life. Customers can begin pre-ordering all M5-equipped devices today. “M5 represents a major advancement in AI performance for Apple silicon,” stated Johny Srouji, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Hardware Technologies. “With the introduction of Neural Accelerators in the GPU, M5 significantly enhances AI workloads.
Coupled with the fastest CPU core available, an upgraded Neural Engine, and increased unified memory bandwidth, M5 delivers remarkable performance and capabilities across Apple’s product range.” The Apple M5 chip signifies a substantial leap towards a new era of AI-driven computing, focusing on speed, efficiency, and artificial intelligence across all devices it powers.
