Dhenkanal: The Cyber Safety Campaign 2025, organized by the district police administration, was inaugurated at the Dhenkanal Art and Craft Centre on Tuesday in the presence of various stakeholders. District Collector Ashish Ishwar Patil opened the campaign, emphasizing the importance of awareness to safeguard against ‘digital arrest’ and other online frauds. Digital arrest refers to a cybercrime wherein fraudsters pose as law enforcement to intimidate victims into transferring funds. The Collector urged teachers to educate students about cybercrime. SP Abhinav Sonkar noted that cybercriminals exploit fear and greed to execute their attacks.
He encouraged the use of helpline number 1930 to report cybercrimes, including digital arrest, and advised against sharing confidential PINs, OTPs, or bank details, as well as responding to unknown calls. Additionally, notable individuals who provide guidance on cyber safety were honored during the event, and IIMC students held a quiz competition focused on cyber safety with participation from teachers, students, journalists, and institutional heads.
