Mumbai: The National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) announced on Monday the successful overhaul of its Foreign Portfolio Investor (FPI) Portal and the introduction of the Foreign Venture Capital Investor (FVCI) Portal. This upgraded platform consolidates FPI and FVCI registration and operations into a single interface, eliminating the need for multiple logins and manual processes. It serves as a unified digital platform intended to simplify, expedite, and improve the registration and compliance experience for global investors in India’s securities markets. “The launch of the revamped FPI and FVCI portals signifies progress. This is more than just an upgrade; it represents NSDL’s strong commitment to equip participants with top-tier digital infrastructure,” stated Vijay Chandok, MD and CEO of NSDL.
The unified platform provides streamlined registration (with guided workflows, validations, and tooltips), traceability (application tracking and audit trails for full transparency), a consolidated interface for FPI and FVCI registrations to reduce duplication and speed up onboarding, automated PAN requests, and a technology-driven design. Dr. Ruchi Chojer, Executive Director of SEBI, remarked that “the new platform aligns with SEBI’s vision for a seamless, investor-friendly Indian market—one that is efficient, transparent, and meets global standards.” Sameer Patil, Chief Business Officer of NSDL, emphasized that true progress is found in simplification. “This platform exemplifies that principle—facilitating faster, easier, and more transparent access to Indian markets for global participants,” he said.
Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) are foreign entities registered with SEBI that invest in Indian equities, bonds, and mutual funds, contributing to capital formation and market liquidity. Foreign Venture Capital Investors (FVCIs) are foreign entities that invest in venture capital funds or unlisted Indian startups, fostering innovation and entrepreneurship. Established in 1996, NSDL is one of the largest depositories globally, managing a significant portion of securities in dematerialized form in India.
