Patna: Bihar is poised for a significant temperature drop as a cold wave moves through the state, leading authorities to issue precautionary guidelines to mitigate its effects. Residents have already started to experience the chill during mornings and evenings, with nighttime temperatures in many regions remaining around 11–12°C in recent days. The state’s Disaster Management Department has cautioned that conditions are likely to deteriorate in the coming days, with temperatures possibly dropping below 10°C in late November and early December. Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh, Secretary of the Disaster Management Department, has instructed all district magistrates to take prompt action to safeguard vulnerable populations.

Authorities have been called upon to prepare relief and rescue operations, which include providing medical supplies and adjusting doctors’ schedules to address cold wave-related health issues. The guidelines emphasize the necessity of night shelters and temporary housing equipped with blankets and essential amenities. The distribution of blankets and the establishment of bonfires for economically disadvantaged groups have been identified as crucial measures. Authorities are also directed to ensure a continuous power supply to facilitate indoor heating and healthcare services. Alongside the falling temperatures, the Meteorological Department has observed a rise in humidity, which may worsen pollution levels. Residents are urged to take precautions against cold-related health problems and travel cautiously during foggy conditions, with strict enforcement of traffic regulations.
