Hyderabad: The South Central Railway (SCR) Women’s Basketball Team claimed victory at the 48th Women All India Inter-Railway Championship, which took place from November 3 to 11 in Maligaon, Guwahati. The winning team met with Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, General Manager of South Central Railway, on Wednesday at Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad. The General Manager praised the team for their dedication, exceptional sportsmanship, and commitment. Aroma Singh Thakur, President of the SCR Sports Association (SCRSA) and IG cum Principal Chief Security Commissioner of SCR; P. Koteswara Rao, General Secretary of SCRSA & Financial Adviser and Chief Accounts Officer (Stores & Workshop); Y. Srinivas, Deputy Chief Engineer & Secretary Basketball of SCR; and other officials were also in attendance.
In the championship’s final match, the SCR team triumphed over Eastern Railway, who featured notable players, with the SCR players showcasing an impressive performance to win the Gold Medal. Ms. Pushpa from SCR was named the Best Player of the Tournament. A total of 14 Zonal Railway teams competed in the championship, divided into four pools. SCR faced ICF and Eastern Railway in the pool stage, overcame South East Central Railway in the quarterfinals, and defeated Southern Railway in the semifinals before reaching the final.
