Patna: A political crisis has emerged in Bihar following RJD MLC Sunil Singh’s warning that the state might experience a situation akin to Nepal, Bangladesh, or Sri Lanka if discrepancies are found during the vote counting process. This statement, made during a period of heightened political tension, led Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar to direct the filing of an FIR against the Rashtriya Janata Dal leader. In comments to the press, Singh accused that during the 2020 assembly elections, Grand Alliance candidates were “forcibly defeated” in numerous constituencies, including Hilsa, Parihar, and Bhore.
He also asserted that in the ongoing election, the central government has influenced officials and “declared the NDA’s victory while voting was still taking place,” thereby misleading the electorate. Singh stated, “If anyone interferes with the people’s mandate, Bihar’s streets will mirror those of Nepal, Bangladesh, or Sri Lanka. The public will rise up.” His remarks prompted strong backlash from Janata Dal (United), which claimed RJD leaders were making inciting and irresponsible statements ahead of the election results. The Patna Cyber Police Station initiated action on its own after receiving a complaint. ASI Khushboo Kumari submitted a request for the FIR, indicating that Sunil Singh’s remarks were provocative and could lead to public unrest.
