Jamui: Shreyasi Singh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for the Jamui Assembly constituency, has allegedly received death threats and encountered efforts to damage her reputation on social media. Disturbing posts and altered images of Singh have been shared on platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, raising alarms about online harassment and the misuse of personal data. Singh’s personal assistant, Milton Singh, lodged a formal complaint with the Cyber Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), identifying three social media accounts purportedly involved in these actions. The complaint states that fraudulent accounts using Singh’s name and likeness have been disseminating misleading and inappropriate content, aiming to mislead the public and harm her personal and political reputation.
“These actions represent not only cybercrimes but also assaults on democratic principles,” Milton Singh remarked. The situation has ignited outrage among local BJP supporters and residents, who are demanding prompt identification and prosecution of the offenders. The Cyber DSP confirmed that the complaint has been received and an investigation is in progress. Authorities are employing technical methods to trace the individuals behind the questionable accounts. Officials have stressed that severe legal measures will be enacted against those involved in threatening or defaming public figures online.
