RJD Outperforms BJP in Vote Count and Share Despite Fewer Seats

Patna: The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) may have won only 25 seats in the Bihar assembly elections, but it still ranked as the top party in the state in terms of total votes and overall vote share. The National Democratic Alliance achieved a substantial victory, with the BJP–JDU–LJP coalition capturing 202 seats, while the Grand Alliance, which includes the RJD, Congress, and Left parties, managed only 35 seats. Despite leading the alliance, the RJD secured just 25 constituencies. However, a closer look at the numbers reveals a different narrative. RJD leads in vote share According to election results, the RJD obtained 23% of the total vote share, the highest of any party in Bihar.

The BJP followed with 20.08%, nearly three percentage points behind the RJD. JDU was third with 19.25%, while Congress garnered 8.71%. The RJD’s robust vote share can be attributed in part to contesting the most seats, but analysts emphasize that the party’s core support base remained resilient, even amid the NDA’s significant gains. Highest total votes: ‘Most people pressed the lantern button’ In total votes, the RJD received more than any other party, tallying 1,15,46,055 votes from both postal ballots and EVM votes. This total marks the highest for any single party in the 2025 Bihar elections. The BJP, despite winning 89 seats, received 1,00,81,143 votes—approximately 1.5 million fewer than the RJD.

JDU amassed 96,67,118 votes, equating to 85 seats, while Congress attracted 43,74,579 votes. Political analysts note that the gap between votes and seats underscores the unpredictability of first-past-the-post systems in a fragmented multi-party environment.
