Jan Suraaj Party Dissolves Units After Election Defeat

Patna: Following a substantial loss in the 2025 state assembly elections, the Jan Suraaj Party has disbanded its organisational units throughout Bihar in an effort to regroup for the upcoming political cycle. During a meeting on Saturday, the National Council sanctioned the immediate dissolution of all entities from the panchayat to the state level. This decision was made shortly after party founder Prashant Kishor announced the Bihar Navnirman Sankalp Abhiyan, a new outreach initiative set to commence on January 15. Party spokesperson Syed Masihuddin stated that the dissolved committees will retain an executive role until new units are formed, a process anticipated to take approximately six weeks.

Senior leaders have been assigned to manage all 12 administrative divisions, with the goal of establishing what the party aims to be a “more effective and functional” organisational framework in their districts. The leadership has also instructed the newly created oversight teams to engage in thorough consultations and provide reports that identify the causes of the electoral defeat, including any issues of indiscipline or alleged sabotage. The meeting on Saturday was led by state president Manoj Bharti and included several prominent figures, such as Lt Gen SK Singh (retired), former Union minister RCP Singh, senior advocate YV Giri, along with various retired civil servants and former legislators.

Jan Suraaj, which garnered considerable attention prior to the elections, experienced a disappointing outcome, with many candidates not finishing in the top three. In response, Prashant Kishor undertook a symbolic fast, deeming the results a moment for contemplation. A general council meeting is planned for December 21 in Patna, where the party will deliberate on its reorganisation and future strategy.
