Bettiah: An Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) soldier has taken his own life while on election duty in the West Champaran district of Bihar. The event took place at the Kohra Bhawanipur School premises, where the soldier was residing for the assignment. The individual has been identified as Gautam Kumar Yadav, 33, from Chirkunda in Dhanbad, Jharkhand. Reports indicate that Yadav used his service light machine gun to end his life and was declared dead at the scene. The gunfire reportedly triggered a panic response throughout the camp. Officers from the Srinagar police station and the local deputy superintendent of police (DSP) arrived quickly on the scene.
DSP Rajneesh Priyadarshi confirmed that the soldier’s firearm was located nearby, and the body has been taken for post-mortem analysis. “The matter is under investigation. Senior ITBP officials are also overseeing the case,” Rajneesh Priyadarshi stated. Authorities are looking into the factors leading to the suicide. Yadav’s family has been informed.
