Apple’s long-awaited foldable iPhone is on track to be one of the most significant tech launches of 2026. Recent market forecasts indicate that this device could disrupt the global foldable smartphone segment, potentially granting Apple a commanding 34% market share despite its premium pricing.
11 December 2025 | For years, Apple has been absent from the foldable race, which has thus far been dominated by competitors like Samsung, Google, and Huawei. However, industry insights suggest that this gap may close in 2026 with the introduction of Apple’s first foldable iPhone. Early estimates show that Apple’s entry could reshape the market landscape almost instantly.
Projected Market Impact of iPhone Fold
According to the International Data Corporation (IDC), the upcoming iPhone Fold is expected to secure over 22% of unit sales and 34% of the total foldable smartphone market value in its debut year. These projections are particularly notable considering the anticipated price tag of $2,400 (approximately Rs 2,15,000). In comparison, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 starts at Rs 1,74,999 in India.
Analysts believe that Apple’s entry could significantly boost the growth trajectory of the foldable smartphone segment. The global market for these devices, previously expected to grow by around 6% in 2026, is now forecasted to increase by 30% year-over-year, spurred by several high-profile releases, including Samsung’s Galaxy Z Trifold and new Huawei offerings. However, Apple’s arrival is being touted as the real game changer.
Features and Specifications of iPhone Fold
If the reports are accurate, the iPhone Fold will debut in the fall of 2026, likely alongside the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. The device is expected to feature a book-like, inward-folding design, with a 5.5-inch external display and a 7.8-inch internal screen.
Rumors also suggest premium hardware, including an under-display selfie camera, a crease-minimizing hinge, and the powerful A20 Pro chipset, which is also expected to be part of the iPhone 18 Pro series. Additionally, Apple may equip the device with a 5,400mAh battery, surpassing the capacity of many current foldables, including the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
With strong early projections and Apple’s history of redefining product categories, the iPhone Fold could make 2026 a landmark year for foldable smartphones.
