Nandyal (Andhra Pradesh), May 14 (). Two people were killed when a tourist boat capsized in a lake in Andhra Pradesh’s Nandyal district on Sunday. While another person is said to be missing.
Eleven other people traveling in a boat in Lake Awuku have been rescued. 14 family members of head constable Rasool Basha had gone to the lake for a picnic. They boarded a boat operated by the tourism department.
Water entered the boat only after covering a distance of half a kilometer in the lake. Driver Gangaraju tried to take her back to the ghat, but she turned around.
Basha’s 23-year-old niece Asiya drowned, while his 20-year-old daughter Sajida went missing. Basha’s 40-year-old sister-in-law Noorjahan died on the way to the hospital. While others saved themselves by holding the boat. Police rescued them with the help of another boat.
As per reports, a woman is missing and divers are searching for her. The boatman fled after the incident. Rescued people say that the sailor was drunk.
Noorjahan was working as an Urdu teacher at Municipal High School in Nandyal, while Asiya was a student of MSc (Agriculture) at SV University in Tirupati. Sajida had recently appeared in NEET.
