Amaravati, May 10 (). The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Wednesday granted bail to former Telugu Desam Party (TDP) legislator Adireddy Appa Rao and his son and TDP state executive secretary Adireddy Srinivasa Rao in a case of financial irregularities involving a chit fund company.
He was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Andhra Pradesh on 30 April. He had filed a petition for bail and the High Court had completed the hearing two days earlier.
TDP Rajahmundry MLA Adireddy Bhavani’s husband Appa Rao and their son Srinivasa Rao are directors in Jagajjanani Chit Funds Pvt Ltd.
During the hearing on the bail plea, the counsel for the TDP leaders argued that the Depositors Act was not applicable in the case. He also argued that the case has been registered against him without any complaint from the depositors.
Advocate General Sriram, appearing for the state government, told the court that the accused used the depositors’ money for other purposes.
The main opposition TDP had condemned the arrests. TDP national president and former chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu spoke to Bhavani over phone and expressed solidarity with her.
Naidu said political harassment and vendetta by the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government was increasing day by day. There has been no change in the behavior of the ruling party.
The TDP president had said that the YSRCP government only believed in illegal cases and illegal arrests. The arrest of Appa Rao and Srinivasa Rao is yet another example of vendetta politics by the YSRCP government.
The TDP chief said the Jagan government has not changed its ways despite the courts reprimanding the government on several occasions.
