Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Swasth Mahilaye, Sashakt Mahilaye campaign on September 17, 2025, from Dhar, Madhya Pradesh, via video conferencing. This major health initiative commenced with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launching state-level programs at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Scientific Convention Centre, KGMU, Lucknow. During this event, the CM revealed plans to provide smartphones and a pay increase for Anganwadi workers and initiated health camps throughout all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh, focusing on women and childcare. Prime Minister Modi emphasized that the health of mothers, sisters, and daughters is a priority for the government and encouraged citizens to utilize the health camps, which offer free services.
He outlined four essential pillars for a developed India—women, youth, farmers, and the poor—stressing the importance of women’s empowerment in national progress. On Vishwakarma Jayanti, he described the campaign as a foundation for Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar, aligning with his vision for a developed India. CM Yogi conducted Annaprashan for children and distributed nutritional supplements during a baby shower event for expectant mothers. He also congratulated PM Modi on his 75th birthday on behalf of Uttar Pradesh’s population of 25 crore, stating the Prime Minister’s message inspires the state’s commitment to his vision. CM Yogi announced the provision of smartphones and increased honorarium for Anganwadi workers, asserting that their contributions will be recognized through these enhancements.
He pledged to ensure their training and timely payments to promote self-reliance. Additionally, he launched 20,324 health camps across 75 districts offering free tests for various health issues, emphasizing prenatal care for pregnant women, child vaccinations, and health awareness. Approximately 507 blood donation camps will also be organized to motivate youth participation. CM Yogi praised the health department’s preparations, stating this 15-day drive will not only provide tests but also free treatment. To facilitate access to medical specialists, Aarogya Mandirs, community health centers, and medical colleges have been integrated into the initiative. Discussing women’s empowerment, the CM highlighted several initiatives launched under PM Modi, including Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao, Matru Vandana, Kanya Sumangala, and the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam.
Over eight years, the UP government has facilitated free education for girls, a ₹25,000 package under the Kanya Sumangala Yojana, and ₹1 lakh assistance for each daughter’s marriage through the Mass Marriage scheme. With 1.89 lakh Anganwadi centers and 10 lakh self-help groups, nearly one crore women have achieved self-sufficiency. The CM noted that 60,000 women currently earn ₹8,000 monthly through THR plants, and with support from NAFED, their earnings are set to increase. He also highlighted health achievements, stating that 41 new medical colleges have been established in Uttar Pradesh over the past eight years, including a recent inauguration in Amethi—the first in 70 years.
The infant mortality rate has decreased from 45 to 37, and the maternal mortality rate is now at 141, indicating progress. Between 2015-16 and 2019-21, rates of anemia, stunting, underweight, and wasting have all improved. CM Yogi remarked on the eradication of encephalitis, which had claimed 50,000 children’s lives over four decades, and noted ongoing efforts to eliminate malaria, dengue, kala-azar, and tuberculosis. He introduced a Poshan Mission for children aged 3–6 years and a campaign for tuberculosis elimination, acknowledging blood donors and Ni-kshay Mitras for their efforts. The CM stated that the 15-day campaign will continue until Vijayadashami, positioning UP as a leading state.
To enhance the nutrition mission, Anganwadi centers will receive improved infrastructure through the merging of schools. He instructed the women welfare department to ensure prompt smartphone distribution and honorarium increases for Anganwadi workers. The CM recognized the contributions of women self-help groups in both rural and urban areas, stating that 10 lakh rural and 1 lakh urban groups have empowered one crore women. With increased production from THR plants sold by NAFED, women’s incomes are expected to grow, economically empowering thousands and contributing to an Atmanirbhar Uttar Pradesh. He commended community initiatives like blood donation and nutrition kit distribution.
