An insider informed AppleInsider that Apple is developing an internal Mac, identified as J704, which will be tested under an optimized hardware roadmap for the macOS Tahoe 2025 release, version 26.0.2. While various Mac models are in development, they are not scheduled for release at this moment. The early part of 2026 is anticipated to be significant for M5 Macs. Although a timeline leak may occur mid-year, the launches in 2025 and 2026 promise to enhance Apple’s Mac lineup.
Experienced sources suggest that the upcoming hardware will be compatible with the next-generation operating system, macOS 26. The M5 MacBook Air, expected to debut in early 2026, will follow the M5 MacBook Pro and is internally referred to by codenames J813 and J815. Similar to its M4 predecessor, the MacBook Air will be available in 13-inch and 15-inch variants, boasting improved performance and efficiency. It is likely that Apple is currently conducting internal tests on the M5 MacBook Air with macOS 26.2, targeting a release by late 2026. Additionally, following the M5 MacBook Air’s launch, Apple aims to introduce premier MacBook Pro models featuring M5 Pro and M5 Max chips.
The M5 Max models are expected to retain the traditional 14-inch and 16-inch sizes and will be internally designated as J714 and J716.
