Notably, only the iPhone 11 Pro Max has received the vintage label, while the smaller iPhone 11 Pro remains unclassified. Both devices are compatible with iOS 26, but Apple’s designation suggests a gradual reduction in long-term support. Apple defines a product as vintage when more than five years have elapsed since it was last sold.
Such products are no longer actively sold but may still be repairable if replacement parts are accessible. According to Apple, ‘Authorized service providers may still perform repairs on these vintage products, but only while parts remain available.’ Once parts are depleted, official repair options will be limited or cease entirely. This development is significant for the millions of users still utilizing the iPhone 11 Pro Max or Apple Watch Series 3. The Apple Watch Series 3, which debuted in 2017, was revolutionary at its launch, influencing the smartwatch market and becoming one of Apple’s bestsellers. However, support for newer watchOS versions had already been phased out in recent years, and now its vintage status will further limit repair options.
The iPhone 11 Pro Max, released in 2019, became one of Apple’s flagship phones, known for its large screen and advanced features that shaped future iPhone models. Its inclusion in the vintage list suggests the onset of the conclusion of its official support lifecycle. Users should remain calm if they own either device, as both will continue to function normally. However, repair options may gradually become more restricted as parts are depleted. Typically, Apple transitions devices from the vintage category to the obsolete category after an additional five years.
