Senior Congress leader and former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has strongly criticized party leader Mani Shankar Aiyar for his recent statements. Gehlot condemned Aiyar’s remarks on Pakistan, stating that only an irresponsible or irrational person could make such comments.
Gehlot also expressed deep displeasure over Aiyar’s controversial statement about former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. He described Aiyar’s remarks as a reflection of frustration and desperation. According to Gehlot, such irresponsible statements go against the ideology of the Congress party and can harm its reputation.
A video of Mani Shankar Aiyar has been circulating on social media, in which he is heard questioning Rajiv Gandhi’s qualifications for becoming the Prime Minister. In the video, Aiyar says, “When Rajiv Gandhi became Prime Minister, I and many others questioned it. He was an airline pilot, failed twice in university—how could such a person be made Prime Minister?” However, it remains unclear when the video was recorded, though it is speculated to be from a recent interview.
In the viral clip, Aiyar further remarks, “Rajiv Gandhi was an airline pilot who failed twice. I studied with him at Cambridge, where passing was considered quite easy, yet he failed. Later, he joined Imperial College London, but he couldn’t succeed there either. So, I was surprised that someone with such an academic record was chosen as Prime Minister.”
Aiyar’s comments have sparked anger within the Congress party. Ashok Gehlot has made it clear that such statements are not only inappropriate but also detrimental to the party’s image.
