Gayaji: In a significant development for women’s sports in the district, the Asmita District Athletics League — the inaugural women-only athletics league in Gayaji — is scheduled to commence on Saturday at the Harihar Subramaniam Stadium, Gandhi Maidan. The District Athletics Association has characterized this as the most substantial launch of women’s athletics ever conducted in Gayaji. According to Jitendra Kumar, Secretary of the District Athletics Association, approximately 350 girls have signed up for the league, representing 30 schools from the district. He mentioned that the initiative aims to provide young athletes in Gayaji with a platform to enhance their skills and eventually compete on a national stage. The league’s inauguration will take place at 10:30 a.m.
by former minister and current city MLA Dr. Prem Kumar, accompanied by Wazirganj MLA Virendra Singh. Special guests will include Gayaji District Olympic Association Patron Dr. Navneet Nischal and President Hariprapan alias Pappuji. A diverse array of track and field events will be conducted throughout the day, with participants competing in long-distance and short-distance races, high jump, shot put, and other throwing disciplines. Officials indicated that athletes who deliver outstanding performances will be considered for national-level competitions. The association is optimistic that this event will signify a pivotal moment for women’s athletics in the area, providing aspiring girls with a more substantial presence in sports and enhancing the overall athletics framework in Gayaji.
