Guwahati, April 25 (). A minor boy was allegedly killed by a leopard in Assam’s Dibrugarh district. Officials gave this information on Tuesday.
A seven-year-old boy from Satishpur Garden went missing on Monday. Later the police said that the body of a minor boy was found in the forest.
The relatives of the deceased boy told that he had gone to the local market on Monday afternoon and went missing from there. After searching for about 10 hours, several injury marks were found on his body.
Shwetank Mishra, Superintendent of Police of Dibrugarh district, said, “Locals speculate that the child was killed by a leopard, but we can say for sure after the forest department examines the spot.”
There is a big cut near her neck which appears to be the result of an animal attack, Mishra said. Forest officials said it could be a leopard as no tiger has been seen in the area.
Meanwhile, the family members of the child claimed that even after 12 hours of the incident, no forest department official showed up at the spot.
The local people had earlier informed the forest department about the arrival of wild animals in that area, but no preventive steps were taken, he said. As a result of such lapse, we lost our child.
The Forest Department is yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
