Guwahati, June 2 (). A local BJP leader has been arrested in Assam’s Hailakandi district for duping people by promising them jobs in return for cash. The police gave this information on Friday. Ansarul Haque Chowdhary is the state executive member of BJP’s Minority Morcha in the state.
He was taken into custody by the police in Katlichera area of the district on Thursday evening. Police is interrogating him to get more information.
Chowdhury’s social media profile is replete with pictures of him with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, cabinet minister Pijush Hazarika and other top BJP leaders from the state.
He was often seen attending important party events in Guwahati.
As per the preliminary investigation, Choudhary first extorted money from several people in his locality by promising them jobs in the state government, however, after failing to fulfill his promise, the accused did not return the money to the people.
Dilawar Hussain Chowdhary, a resident of Hailakandi’s Natun Bazar, fell in the trap of false promises. On realizing the matter, he lodged a report at Katlicherra police station.
Police have registered a complaint against Chowdhary under sections 420, 406 and 468 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Additionally, the BJP leader is accused of taking Rs 7 lakh from Sahabuddin, a resident of Bolipar area in Hailakandi district.
Two cases of check bounce of Rs 4 lakh and Rs 3.9 lakh are also registered against him.
Reacting to Chaudhary’s arrest, a district BJP leader said, “The matter is in court and I should not comment on it.” If the allegations are true, then it is a serious matter. The state leadership will take a decision on this.
