Guwahati, April 26 (). Assam Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell on Tuesday registered a case against Rajya Sabha MP Ajit Bhuiyan and 13 other persons in connection with the MPLAD fund allocation scam.
The case filed in a special court is about allegations of corruption and misconduct as the primary issues in the matter. High-ranking state government officials Sharmishtha Bora and Hemant Dutta are among those implicated.
At least four government officials were earlier suspended on March 18 in connection with the MPLAD fund scam.
According to sources, the money from Bhuiyan’s MPLAD fund was given to build a road in Barpeta district. However, in violation of the rules, the money was released even before 75 per cent of the work was completed.
After investigation by the Special Vigilance Cell, it was found that the four suspended officers had signed the bill even before 75 per cent of the road construction work was completed.
Kamrup’s Additional Commissioner Sukanya Bora served as the chairman of the committee.
It is alleged that the funds allocated for the construction of three highways, which were never built, were withdrawn by submitting fake bills.
