Prayagraj, April 16 (). The three assailants who shot dead gangster-turned-politician Ateeq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf used sophisticated Jigana pistols, which are banned in India.
The Zigana is a semi-automatic pistol manufactured by TISAS, a Turkish firearms manufacturing company. The production of the said pistol started in 2001 and is one of the first pistols in Turkey with an original design.
The Zigana pistol has a modified Browning-type locking system with a lock-slide short recoil operating mechanism.
These are banned in India. The cost of this pistol is around 6 to 7 lakh rupees.
According to the FIR lodged in the murder case of Atiq and his brother Ashraf, the two were coming out of a hospital on Saturday night after undergoing a medical examination, when the media surrounded them.
Suddenly two journalists dropped their camera and mike and fired at Ateeq and Ashraf killing them. Policeman Man Singh was injured and one of the attackers was also injured.
After this, shooters Lavlesh Tiwari, Sunny Singh and Arun Maurya dropped their weapons. Some journalists who were covering the incident also received minor injuries.
It further said that during interrogation, the trio disclosed that they wanted to eliminate Atiq and Ashraf’s gang and make a name for themselves in the state, so that they could benefit in future. The attackers could not run away after committing the crime due to not being able to anticipate the tight vigilance of the police.
The three assailants said that they were waiting for the right opportunity to strike.
