BCCI and PCB Prepare for Conflict Over Asia Cup Trophy

The BCCI and the Pakistan Cricket Board are gearing up for a confrontation at the upcoming ICC meeting as PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi remains firm on his position to personally present the Asia Cup trophy to India in his role as head of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). In a response sent to the BCCI and other ACC member nations, Naqvi expressed his readiness to hold a ceremony on November 10 in Dubai, during which a BCCI representative and any available Indian team player can receive the trophy from him.

“The ACC trophy rightfully belongs to the Indian cricket team and is being held in trust until a BCCI official along with any participating player can collect it from the ACC President,” Naqvi stated in his letter. He emphasized that the collection should be accompanied by significant celebration and media coverage, stressing that established practices must be maintained and no precedent should be set that could undermine the spirit of the game. The ICC is led by former BCCI secretary Jay Shah. Naqvi’s response followed a recent communication from the BCCI regarding the Asia Cup trophy situation, which received support from the boards of Afghanistan and Sri Lanka.

This exchange highlights the ongoing mistrust and tension between the BCCI and PCB. Additionally, the BCCI has solicited proposals from reputable firms to obtain the ‘Official Partner Rights’ for the Women’s Premier League through a tender process. The BCCI mentioned that the Request for Quotations (RFQ) outlines the specific terms and conditions for bid submission and evaluation.
