Kolkata, May 14 (). The Calcutta High Court has given its nod to a central agency to probe the alleged scam in municipal recruitment in West Bengal. Following this, a state minister admitted on Saturday that recruitment rules were flouted in some municipalities.
Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim has admitted that recruitment through an outsourced agency has gone awry in some municipalities. He said that if there are some irregularities, the department will definitely investigate them. I still do not understand why some recruitments were done through outsourced agency.
He further said that in case of municipality, the rule for recruitment is that the process should be conducted by a joint committee consisting of representatives of the municipality concerned and the office of the District Magistrate. But in some cases the recruitment was done through outsourced agency. I still do not understand why the rules were flouted.
The minister also said that he has asked the secretary of his department to review why this happened. Hakim said, everything will become clear after the report comes. If the court wants, we will submit our report to it. I also need to know who approved this outsourced agency.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) are now probing the alleged municipal recruitment scam by registering an FIR. The matter came to light after the ED raided the residence of real estate promoter Ayan Sil in connection with its probe into an alleged multi-crore scam in recruitment in government schools.
