Bhojpur: A disturbing event unfolded in Bihar’s Bhojpur district on Tuesday when a young woman was shot dead in broad daylight while returning from the market. This incident occurred in Dullamachak village, within the Chauri police station area, near the Surya Temple. Eyewitnesses reported that the woman was on a motorcycle with her brother-in-law when armed assailants fired at her from close range. She was struck on the right cheek and succumbed to her injuries immediately. The attack has incited panic and anger among local residents. The victim has been identified as Nikki Devi, 24, the wife of Rohit Rai, a Dullamachak resident.
Authorities stated that Nikki was returning home after medical treatment when the attackers, who were allegedly lying in wait for her, fatally shot her. Her brother-in-law managed to escape, abandoning the motorcycle amid the ensuing chaos. Locals quickly gathered at the scene and blocked the road, demanding immediate action to apprehend the perpetrators. Senior law enforcement officials, including Piro ASP Krishna Kumar Singh and Chauri Police Station Officer Jairam Shukla, arrived with additional personnel to manage the situation. The police have taken custody of the body and transported it to Ara Sadar Hospital for an autopsy. Officials have initiated a comprehensive investigation, gathering evidence and interrogating residents to identify those responsible.
ASP Singh reported that the situation has stabilized, and security has been enhanced in the area to avert further unrest. While the police have not disclosed the specific motive for the murder, locals speculate it may be linked to electoral rivalries between factions in adjacent villages.
