Patna: The 17th Bihar Legislative Assembly’s term concludes today, with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar set to resign to Governor Arif Mohammad Khan. The Assembly’s dissolution will officially allow for a new government formation, anticipated to occur this evening. The swearing-in ceremony is planned for November 20 at Gandhi Maidan. Today, critical political meetings involving JD(U), BJP, and the NDA are scheduled. These meetings will see alliance MLAs elect their legislative party leader before meeting with the Governor to claim the new government formation. Discussions within the NDA are also ongoing about the proposed “three Deputy CMs” plan.
BJP and JD(U) Meetings Start at 10 am The BJP Legislative Party meeting is slated for 10 am at their office on Veerchandra Patel Marg. As the largest NDA component with 89 MLAs, the BJP will finalize its legislative party leader’s name. Key leaders, including Samrat Chaudhary, Vijay Sinha, Dilip Jaiswal, and Vinod Tawde, will attend. The JD(U), which has secured 85 MLAs, will convene its legislative party meeting at the Chief Minister’s residence post-10 am. Nitish Kumar will be present along with party leaders and Union Ministers Lallan Singh, Sanjay Jha, and Vijay Chaudhary, and the meeting is expected to endorse the selected legislative leader.
NDA Legislative Party to Confirm CM Candidate Following the BJP and JD(U) internal discussions, the NDA Legislative Party will meet. All 202 MLAs from the BJP, JD(U), LJP (Ram Vilas), HAM, and RLM will take part. Senior leaders such as Nitish Kumar, Chirag Paswan, Santosh Suman, Upendra Kushwaha, Samrat Chaudhary, and Vijay Sinha will be present. The NDA is anticipated to elect Nitish Kumar as its legislative party leader. After his election, he will resign from his position and formally claim the formation of the new government. This process is expected to conclude by evening. On Tuesday, Nitish Kumar visited Gandhi Maidan to check the arrangements for Thursday’s swearing-in ceremony.
Amit Shah to Visit Patna Today Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to arrive in Patna today and will meet with Nitish Kumar at the Chief Minister’s residence. They will discuss government formation, portfolio allocations, and coordination within the NDA. On Tuesday, the BJP designated Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, Arjun Ram Meghwal, and Keshav Prasad Maurya as observers for Bihar. A two-hour meeting also took place at Amit Shah’s Delhi residence with JD(U) leaders Sanjay Jha and Lalan Singh to deliberate on the Deputy CM arrangement, cabinet positions, and the Speaker’s role.
Final Cabinet Meeting Held on November 17 The last cabinet meeting of the outgoing government occurred on November 17, where three resolutions were adopted, including a recommendation to dissolve the Bihar Legislative Assembly from November 19. Nitish Kumar later communicated this decision to the Governor. Grand Swearing-In Ceremony Scheduled for November 20 Nitish Kumar will again take the oath as Chief Minister on November 20 at Gandhi Maidan.
