In an effort to lower road accidents and encourage responsible driving, the Bihar Road Safety Council, under the Transport Department, successfully completed a two-day specialized training program for government vehicle drivers. This initiative involved the participation of 945 drivers from various districts and departments, providing them with critical road safety protocols and defensive driving skills. The second day of training saw over 500 drivers attending sessions that focused on traffic indicators, hazard recognition, and safe driving practices. This phased program is part of a wider strategy to promote discipline and awareness among state-employed drivers.
State Transport Commissioner Ashutosh Dwivedi highlighted the necessity of ongoing efforts, stating, “Understanding road safety indicators, developing safe driving habits, and recognizing risks are essential for enhancing driver awareness and responsibility. We will continue such phased training and awareness initiatives across the state.” Instructors addressed a broad range of topics, including adherence to speed limits, mandatory seat belt usage, avoidance of mobile phone use while driving, safe overtaking techniques, recognizing blind spots, prioritizing pedestrians, and maintaining safe distances between vehicles. Real-life case studies and video demonstrations were utilized to illustrate the causes of accidents and prevention strategies, making the sessions both engaging and effective.
To reinforce the training, the Bihar Road Safety Council distributed customized pamphlets that covered traffic rules and indicators, the dangers of speeding, emergency precautions, and the significance of helmets and seat belts. These materials, crafted in clear language, will be widely distributed to ensure all government drivers in the state receive them. The department affirmed its commitment to regular training for both government and private drivers, acknowledging it as a crucial step in reducing road accidents. With plans to broaden this initiative, Bihar aims to lead in proactive road safety governance.
