Patna: The Bihar government is set to implement skill development training in schools to prepare students for future employment and career opportunities. A comprehensive action plan is underway to initiate skill-based activities and career counselling in all 9,360 higher secondary schools statewide. The primary goal is to ensure students acquire practical, job-oriented skills alongside their regular academic studies. This initiative has been spearheaded by the Labour Resources Department. Officials have confirmed that training will soon commence in every government higher secondary school. On Friday, Deepak Anand, Secretary of the Labour Resources Department and Chief Executive Officer of the Bihar Skill Development Mission, submitted a significant proposal to Dr. B.
Rajendra, Additional Chief Secretary of the Education Department, to seek approval and coordination for the initiative. The proposal emphasizes prioritizing skill development in secondary education to enhance the employability of Bihar’s youth. The Labour Resources Department has requested space in every school to facilitate skill development activities. Deepak Anand stated that this programme reflects the government’s commitment to integrating education with practical skill learning, aiming to equip students for the competitive job market. The Bihar Skill Development Mission is already operating several training initiatives to empower youth and enhance their job prospects. Under the school-level programme, students will undergo psychometric assessments, receive career counselling, learn soft skills, and participate in industry-based training.
These activities are designed to help students better understand their strengths, interests, and career pathways, fostering improved decision-making from an early stage. The Education Department has been asked to allocate one or two classrooms — with a minimum area of 500 square feet — in each school to ensure the programme’s effective implementation. These spaces will be utilized for workshops, competitions, finishing school activities, and practical skill sessions. Officials are optimistic that this collaboration between the two departments will enable students to identify opportunities early, build confidence, and be better prepared for future job markets. If executed effectively, the plan is poised to significantly contribute to developing a skilled and confident generation across Bihar.
Students will not only gain job-ready skills but also become more informed when selecting their future careers, making this initiative a crucial step towards enhancing youth employment.
