Kolkata: On Tuesday, Pratap Chandra Sarangi, the BJP MP representing Balasore, visited the gang-rape victim who is receiving treatment at a private hospital in Paschim Bardhaman district, West Bengal. Sarangi arrived in Durgapur in the afternoon with a group of BJP workers but was reportedly confronted by the hospital’s security, resulting in a dispute. Srinivas Pradhan, the BJP’s media coordinator for Balasore district, stated, “The MP’s visit had been communicated to the West Bengal administration and the police. Despite this, we were prevented from entering. This reflects the current state of affairs in Bengal.” Sarangi expressed, “We are here to see our daughter, who has suffered greatly.
However, access is being denied to us.” Eventually, the BJP MP and a few colleagues from Balasore were able to meet the woman. The victim, a second-year student from Jaleswar, Odisha, was reportedly assaulted outside a private medical college in Durgapur on Friday night while dining with a friend.
