Bangalore, May 14 (). In a dramatic development, the BJP defeated the Congress candidate in the Jayanagar assembly seat in Bengaluru by a margin of just 16 votes. After this, the Congress has decided to complain to the Election Commission (EC).

BJP candidate C.K. Ramamurthy won the seat by defeating the sitting MLA Sowmya Reddy of Congress party by a margin of just 16 votes.

The result was declared after three rounds of counting late on Saturday night. Initially Soumya Reddy was declared the winner by 160 votes.

Soumya Reddy has decided to file a complaint with the Election Commission. “Initially I won. Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya and BJP MLA R. Ashok illegally entered the counting center and got the result changed.

BJP candidate Ramamurthy got 57,797 votes while Soumya Reddy got 57,781 votes. The situation became critical when Karnataka Congress President D.K. Shivkumar reached the spot. His brother, Bangalore Rural MP D.K. Suresh got into an argument with the police.

Congress and BJP workers got into a confrontational mood and the police had a tough time controlling the situation.

With this, the Congress now has 135 seats in the 224-member Karnataka Assembly, one less. According to the Election Commission, BJP has secured 66 seats and JD(S) 19 seats.
