A woman was fatally shot inside her residence in Gopalganj on Sunday evening after unidentified gunmen entered the home of a BSF jawan and opened fire at close range. This incident, which occurred in Pandey Samail village under the Mirganj police jurisdiction, has caused widespread alarm in the area. The deceased, Savita Devi, was the mother of BSF jawan Munna Yadav. Law enforcement arrived promptly at the scene and transported the body to Sadar Hospital for a postmortem examination. Authorities reported that they are exploring various aspects of the case, with a longstanding land dispute identified as a significant line of inquiry. Officials revealed that the assailants entered the home unexpectedly, preventing the family from responding.
Savita Devi succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The sudden gunfire and news of her death shocked local residents, who gathered as police initiated their investigation. SDPO Anand Mohan Gupta stated, “We received reports of the murder around 6pm in Pandey Samail village. Our team arrived at the location and conducted the postmortem. Preliminary findings suggest a dispute, likely related to land. The precise motive will be determined following a comprehensive investigation.” Police are executing raids to apprehend suspects and are interviewing neighbors and family members. Investigators are also reviewing mobile phone records and analyzing CCTV footage from the vicinity. Authorities indicate that an ongoing land rivalry remains a crucial element of the case.
A specialized team has been formed to identify those responsible. Although the motive is not yet fully clarified, police assert that the investigation is advancing, and arrests are anticipated soon.
