Calcutta HC CJ asks Justice Gangopadhyay's office to return files of Abhishek Banerjee

Kolkata, May 1 (). Calcutta High Court Acting Chief Justice T.S. Sivagnanam on Monday asked Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay’s office to return files related to two cases against Trinamool national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee in an alleged multi-crore recruitment scam in West Bengal. Sources in the Calcutta High Court said the recall of the files has been done as per the procedure followed in case of transfer of any case from one particular bench to another.

On receipt of the relevant files back, the Acting Chief Justice will decide on the new bench where the cases will be transferred and directed his office to issue a notification in this regard, said a senior court official on condition of anonymity. Will go

On 28 April, Chief Justice of India D.Y. K. Chandrachud and P.S. Narasimha had ordered the transfer of both the cases after Justice Gangopadhyay gave an interview to a news channel in the matter.

Since the apex court did not issue any specific directions on the remaining matters relating to the alleged recruitment scam, they remained under the jurisdiction of Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay.

Justice Gangopadhyay has expressed apprehension that in future the remaining cases from his bench may also be transferred on this basis.

As per rules, the Chief Justice or the Acting Chief Justice of any High Court decides which matters are to be heard by which judge, said a senior lawyer of the Calcutta High Court. The next revision of the roster of judges in the Calcutta High Court is scheduled for next month.
