Kolkata, May 25 (). A vacation bench of the Calcutta High Court on Thursday dismissed a plea seeking fast-track hearing on a petition challenging the order of a single judge bench quashing the panel for recruitment of forest guards by the West Bengal Forest Department.
Earlier, a bench of Justice Lapita Bandyopadhyay had quashed the entire panel for the recruitment of 2000 forest guards. Some of the candidates in the list approached a division bench, saying that the names of those who got illegal appointments should be removed from the list and the matter should be fast-tracked.
However, the vacation bench of Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay and Justice Partha Sarathi Chatterjee dismissed the appeal for fast track hearing. Justice Gangopadhyay directed the petitioners to file an appeal in the matter before a separate bench.
The Forest Guards were recruited in 2020 by the State Forest Department. However, a petition was filed in the High Court alleging irregularities in the recruitment process.
A division bench of Justice Bandyopadhyay directed the forest department to start a fresh interview process after canceling the panel in view of allegations of irregularities in the recruitment process.
