In Bhadohi district, Uttar Pradesh, two wanted cattle smugglers were arrested after being injured in separate police encounters, as reported by officials on Monday. Superintendent of Police Abhimanyu Manglik indicated that these encounters occurred on Sunday night between 10 pm and 11:30 pm along National Highway-19, within approximately an hour and a half of each other. Both suspects had bounties of Rs 25,000 each. “The accused sustained bullet wounds to their legs and were taken to the district hospital, where their conditions were reported as stable,” he stated.
The incidents followed a joint operation earlier that day involving the district administration, police, and food safety officers, targeting illegal slaughterhouses in around ten locations within the Jamund locality of the City Kotwali area. During this raid, authorities seized 36 bovines and approximately five quintals of slaughtered meat, leading to the arrest of nine individuals. The first encounter took place around 10 pm near Gomti School, where police stopped a pickup van. The suspect, Munawwar (35) from Amwa Mafi village, allegedly fired upon the police, which led to a return of fire that injured him below the knee.
Munawwar had previously escaped police custody on September 28 during an earlier attempt to arrest him for cattle smuggling, resulting in a reward of Rs 25,000 for information leading to his capture. The second encounter occurred around 11:30 pm near Unj police station, where wanted gangster Javed Ahmad (38) from Pure Mufti in Prayagraj district reportedly fired at police while attempting to flee on a motorcycle. He was shot in the leg and subsequently apprehended.
