New Delhi, March 30 (). The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested Manish Rawat, a neurosurgeon at Safdarjung Hospital, along with four others for indulging in illegal activities and accepting bribe in lieu of medical advice. Manish Rawat was involved in a hit-and-run case in January 2017, in which his Audi allegedly ran over four people who were traveling in an auto-rickshaw in Ghaziabad.
Rawat was granted bail in that case by a Ghaziabad court after it found lapses in the police investigation. The CBI had registered a case against five persons arrested on Thursday Manish Rawat, Avnish Patel, Manish Sharma, Deepak Khattar and Kuldeep in the present case.
It was alleged that Manish Rawat in conspiracy with others (acting as middlemen), including private individuals and owner of a surgical shop in Delhi, indulged in illegal activities and medical advice in connection with treatment at Safdarjung Hospital, bypassing prescribed rules Was taking money to give and do surgery.
Rawat allegedly ordered patients through these middlemen to buy equipment needed for surgery from Khattar’s surgical shop itself. Rawat also allegedly forced patients to pay higher rates for the equipment prescribed.
The CBI said that recently bribes of Rs 1,15,000, Rs 55,000 and Rs 30,000 were received from the attendants of Rawat’s patients into the bank accounts of other persons through middlemen. This was allegedly done at the behest of Rawat.
Rawat was laundering the illegally earned money through companies managed by a private person. Searches were conducted at various places including Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, in which incriminating documents, digital devices etc. were recovered.
