Lucknow, October 4: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, during a high-level review meeting of the Urban Development department, instructed officials to ensure that all urban development initiatives are executed in a well-organized and coordinated manner. He noted that coordination issues among departments frequently result in unnecessary delays and urged them to implement a joint action plan to complete projects within a designated timeframe. Stressing the importance of slum area redevelopment, the Chief Minister stated that cleanliness, access to drinking water, drainage systems, road connectivity, waste collection, and street lighting must be guaranteed in these regions. He highlighted the need to enhance drainage systems in cities, asserting that every city should have a sufficient drainage network to avoid waterlogging during heavy rainfall.
He directed officials to regularly monitor improvements and new drainage installations to prevent inconvenience for citizens during the monsoon season. The Chief Minister reiterated that essential amenities such as cleanliness, potable water, drainage, road connectivity, waste collection, and street lighting must be available in slum areas. He clearly instructed that the responsibility for slum development should not be delegated to contractors but should be managed directly by urban local bodies, with consistent oversight to ensure timely execution. Furthermore, he called for the construction of additional community toilets in slum areas and public locations, insisting on proper maintenance of these facilities. He also mandated that newly incorporated villages under urban governance receive basic amenities promptly to avoid difficulties for residents.
The Chief Minister cautioned that accountability would be enforced in cases of negligence. Regarding the Smart City Mission, he directed officials to create projects that promote comprehensive urban development while boosting municipal revenue. He stressed the importance of developing projects like shopping complexes, multi-level parking, restaurants, and auditoriums through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Prioritizing cleanliness, he instructed officials to ensure regular waste collection and disposal, as well as to conduct awareness campaigns on the segregation of dry and wet waste. The Chief Minister issued firm orders to address unapproved colonies and settlements being established without municipal standards or permissions.
He insisted that proactive measures must be taken at the outset to prevent such unauthorized developments and maintain the planned framework of cities. In closing, the Chief Minister emphasized the necessity for ongoing monitoring of all urban development projects, warning that any laxity in implementation would not be tolerated.
