In New Delhi, the Congress party on Thursday criticized the Modi administration for its repeated failures in foreign policy, highlighting recent events involving Pakistan, China, the United States, and Saudi Arabia. Jairam Ramesh, Congress general secretary in charge of communications, stated that the Prime Minister’s celebrated ‘personalised diplomacy’ has encountered another setback, which poses serious risks to India’s national security.

In a post on X, Ramesh referenced three significant incidents: ‘One month after the abrupt halt of Operation Sindoor, President Trump hosted Field Marshal Asim Munir for lunch at the White House—the same individual whose provocative remarks were directly linked to the Pahalgam terror attacks in April 2025.’ He also mentioned that shortly after the Prime Minister’s official trip to Beijing, ‘President Xi unveiled China’s secret military complex to Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari.’ Additionally, Ramesh pointed out the latest news from Riyadh, indicating, ‘Now, Saudi Arabia, where the Prime Minister was present during the Pahalgam terror attacks, has entered into a strategic mutual defense agreement with Pakistan.’ He concluded that these actions by major powers highlight the shortcomings of the government’s personalised diplomacy, which is being misrepresented as a success in foreign policy but is proving to be counterproductive.
