Mumbai, March 30 (). The state Congress on Thursday demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, a day after the Supreme Court termed the Maharashtra government as impotent for failing to curb hate speeches.
State Congress president Nana Patole said, the Shinde government has given a big blow to the image of Maharashtra in the last nine months. Communal riots are on the rise due to inflammatory speeches by some organizations but no action is being taken against them.
He said- Now, even the apex court has expressed its anger by calling the state government impotent and powerless as it does not act immediately, and asked why do we have the state if it remains silent.
Patole demanded – This is a big slap on CM Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Fadnavis government and they have lost the right to continue in power. Due to their inaction, religious disputes are getting out of hand. He should step down immediately. Hailing the Supreme Court’s displeasure, he alleged that the law and order situation in the state has completely broken down and MPs and MLAs of the ruling Shiv Sena-Bharatiya Janata Party openly threaten people and opposition leaders.
Patole said- the family of the notorious bookie has open access to the home minister’s (Fadnavis) residence, but he is unaware of it, elected leaders, former ministers and MLAs are being threatened and attacked in the state , but no action has been initiated. An MLA from the ruling party opened fire but escaped police action.
Referring to the recent rallies of Sakal Hindu Samaj (SHS), on which the Supreme Court expressed its displeasure, he said they were making highly provocative and inflammatory statements, which posed a threat to social peace. He said some organizations have protested and lodged complaints with the police, but law enforcers’ hands were tied as the government was openly supporting the radical group.
Patole said the government is expected to curb such groups but it lacks the will which allows these organizations to flourish, tarnishing the fair image of Mumbai and Maharashtra before the world. Patole said, the word (impotent) used by the apex court for the Maharashtra government, has not happened for any government till date… This itself shows how serious the situation is.
