Countdown begins for launch of Indian rocket with two Singapore satellites

Chennai, April 21 (). The countdown for the launch of India’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) carrying two Singapore satellites has begun and is progressing, a senior Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) official said on Friday.

During the countdown, the rocket is being fueled and the health of the rocket as well as the satellites will be monitored.

On April 22, 2023 at 2.19 am the core alone variant of PSLV rocket (code named PSLV-C55) will lift off from Sriharikota rocket port carrying two Singapore earth observation satellites – TELEOS-2 weighing 741 kg, Lumilite-4 weighing 16 kg.

Apart from these two, there will be seven non-detachable experimental payloads which will be part of the last stage (PS4) of the rocket. ISRO uses the PSLV rocket’s last stage (PS4) as an orbital platform for orbital experiments and named it PSLV Orbital Experimental Module (POEM).

A little more than 19 minutes into its flight, PSLV-C55 will orbit the TELEOS-2 satellite and LumiLite-4 will follow shortly thereafter. With the launch of 36 OneWeb satellites in March this year, ISRO has launched 422 foreign satellites. The numbers are expected to increase further on Saturday.
