The Delhi High Court has initiated contempt proceedings against a lawyer accused of making unfounded corruption allegations against the judiciary. Justice Amit Sharma, in a ruling dated September 19, noted that the statements made by the lawyer, Vedant Kumar, appear to constitute “criminal contempt” as outlined in Section 2(c) of the Contempt of Courts Act, 1971. The case is scheduled for further hearing before the roster bench, with the lawyer required to appear in person on November 19. The court remarked that such reckless assertions damage public trust in the judicial system and must be addressed.
