Ranchi, May 24 (). The country’s first center for processing and research on Giloy rich in medicinal properties has been set up at Birsa Agricultural University, Ranchi. It has been established in collaboration with the Directorate of Agriculture, Government of Jharkhand under the Centrally Sponsored National Agriculture Development Project. It will be inaugurated soon.
During the infection of Kovid-19, Giloy plant was considered effective in treatment along with immunity booster. Its immunity was discussed in the whole country. It has been proven by research to reduce the symptoms of life-threatening fevers like dengue, swine flu and malaria. It has been used for a long time in Ayurveda and herbal. Through this center set up in Ranchi, farmers of 16 districts of the state will also be linked to the cultivation of medicinal plants.
Processing and other machines have been installed at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore in this center built by the Department of Forest Produce and Utility, working under BAU (Birsa Agricultural University). To run this centre, BAU has selected one Giloy village in 16 districts of the state. Two lakh Giloy plants have been distributed among farmers in selected villages. A green shed net house of 600 square meter diameter has been set up in each village. Solar pumps and other necessary facilities have been provided here for irrigation.
Programs related to Giloy in the university are being conducted by Dr. Kaushal Kumar, an expert on medicinal plants. He told that along with others he is going to selected villages to train the farmers for this and also making them aware about it. The Giloy plant will be ready in about one and a half years. Once ready, BAU will buy these from the farmers. After this research work and its processing will be done through the center. Dr. HS Gupta, Chairman, Assam Agriculture Commission, Onkar Nath Singh, Vice-Chancellor of BAU and Dr. PK Singh, Director Research, visited this center on Monday. During this, Mr. Gupta emphasized on making meaningful efforts for the good use of medicinal plants found in the state and training the farmers as much as possible.
Center in-charge Dr. PK Singh said that three kilos of Giloy essence will be made from one quintal of Giloy at the Giloy Processing Center. It will be used in the manufacture of Ayurvedic medicines. Herbal companies are being associated with BAU for its marketing. Significantly, Giloy is called by the name of Amrita in Ayurveda.
