New Delhi, May 18 (). With the suspense over the Karnataka chief minister over, state Congress chief DK Shivakumar, who has been given the deputy CM’s post, on Thursday said he has accepted the decision in the interest of the party.
Party general secretary K.C. Speaking to the media at Venugopal’s residence, Shivakumar said, “The party high command has taken a decision.
He said that he has taken the decision in the larger interest of the party.
After three consecutive days of back-to-back meetings, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge ended the suspense over the Chief Minister of Karnataka by nominating Siddaramaiah for the top post and Shivakumar as his deputy.
Both the leaders were competing for the top post.
Siddaramaiah is scheduled to meet Venugopal before leaving. A CLP meeting has been called in Bengaluru on Thursday evening, after which a formal announcement of the CM’s post has been made.
In the polls held on May 10, the Congress won 135 out of 224 seats, the BJP 66 and the JD(S) 18.
