New Delhi, May 22 (). A Delhi court on Monday extended by five days the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) remand of independent journalist Vivek Raghuvanshi and former Navy Commander Ashish Pathak in an espionage case.
Both were produced before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Anjani Mahajan of Rouse Avenue Court on the expiry of their CBI remand.
The CBI had arrested Pathak on May 17 for helping Raghuvanshi in obtaining sensitive information related to the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and earlier on the same day, Raghuvanshi was allegedly classified as having links with intelligence agencies of foreign countries. Was arrested for sharing information.
A CBI official said, Raghuvanshi was involved in illegal collection of sensitive information. They collect minute details of DRDO defense projects and their progress, sensitive details about future purchases of the Indian Armed Forces that reveal strategic preparedness of the country’s classified communications/information related to national security. Details of India’s strategic and diplomatic talks with our friendly countries and shared this confidential information with foreign intelligence agencies.
The CBI had registered a case under Section 3 of the Official Secrets Act read with Section 120-B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on December 9, 2022 after receiving a complaint from DRDO.
During the investigation, some documents allegedly containing sensitive information were recovered from the possession of Raghuvanshi.
