The Delhi High Court has overturned a Central Information Commission (CIC) ruling that mandated the Delhi University (DU) to reveal details about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s bachelor’s degree. Justice Sachin Datta delivered the decision, which was reserved on February 27, following a petition from Delhi University challenging the CIC’s directive. This case originated from a Right to Information (RTI) request submitted by Neeraj. In December 2016, the CIC had permitted public access to the records of all students who graduated with a BA in 1978, the same year Modi earned his degree. The Delhi High Court had previously issued a stay on the CIC’s ruling on January 23, 2017.
During the proceedings, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing DU, contended that the CIC’s order should be annulled and indicated that the university had no objection to presenting the records to the court.
