New Delhi, May 19 (). A 37-year-old manager of an electronics company was attacked and robbed of his mobile by two snatchers in North-East Delhi’s Bhajanpura area.
On Friday, an official said that the snatchers attacked the man when he was returning home with his daughter from her school.
The incident took place around 1.30 pm on Thursday and one of the accused, identified as Mohammad Azad, 24, a resident of Seelampur, has been arrested, the official said.
Another accused has been identified as Sameer, a resident of Shastri Park, for whose arrest raids have been launched, the official said.
According to the police, the victim was returning from the bus after picking up his daughter from school when he saw two men sitting inside the bus and one of them was brandishing a knife.
A senior police officer said, around 1.30 pm, the victim and her daughter got down from the bus near Ambedkar College and the two men also started following them. One of them took out a knife and threatened the complainant to hand over his mobile phone.
However, the victim resisted, the officer said. One of the accused slapped him and took out his mobile from his pant. Both the accused fled the spot in an auto-rickshaw, but the victim followed them in another auto-rickshaw as well.
The auto-rickshaw stopped at a traffic signal and the victim, who was traveling in another auto-rickshaw behind the accused, confronted them and asked them to return the phone.
One of the accused men attacked the victim with a knife and assaulted her, causing injuries to her hand and hip.
After the incident, the accused tried to flee from the spot. However, the victim raised an alarm, which attracted the attention of people nearby. The gathered crowd managed to capture one of the suspects before the police arrived. A case of robbery has been registered against the accused at Bhajanpura police station.
