Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department announced on Friday that a low-pressure area is expected to form over the South Andaman Sea on November 22. This system is anticipated to move west-northwest and strengthen into a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal around November 24, potentially causing rainfall in Odisha. When asked if this system could develop into a cyclone, Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre Director Manorama Mohanty stated that the IMD has so far only forecasted a depression. “We will provide more information following the formation of the low-pressure area on November 22,” she noted.
In preparation for the expected rainfall, farmers in coastal Odisha have begun harvesting their nearly mature paddy crop, although the State’s Agriculture department has yet to issue any advisory for them. Additionally, night temperatures have increased in most areas of the State.
